Short answerAnthropic's API supports tool use (functions you define), a Files API for uploading PDFs, text and images once and referencing them by ID, and an MCP connector for remote MCP servers. You build the chat page and retrieval around it.
- Tool use: Claude can call functions you define, or server tools run by Anthropic such as web search and code execution.
- Files API: upload once and reference by file ID; documented at 500 MB per file and 1 TB per organization; file operations are free and content is billed as input tokens. Files are scoped to your workspace, not per end user.
- MCP connector: connect to remote MCP servers from the Messages API without a separate client.
Costs are in the API cost comparison. To rebuild Actions as tools see schema mapping. For a no-code option see Claude Projects.
Not sure it is simple enough to do yourself?
Tell us what your GPT does, whether it uses Actions and how many files it has. We will say what will break and what a rebuild involves. The audit is free.
