Start with your originals
Most people uploaded files they still have: PDFs, documents and spreadsheets. Make a folder, find each original and add it. Note which are outdated, because migration is a good time to drop old material.
List what the GPT uses
- Open the GPT and list every file under Knowledge.
- Match each one to an original.
- Name them clearly and add a date.
What the extension can do
The free Chrome extension tries to download files the GPT has through your own ChatGPT login. If a file cannot be downloaded, it tells you which one so you can add the original yourself. Do not rely on it as your only copy.
Plan for the new platform
- Check file count and size limits on the platform you are moving to.
- Convert unusual formats to PDF, DOCX or plain text.
- Split very large files by topic.
- Retest questions that depend on your documents, because retrieval can behave differently.
With OpenAI's own plugin migration, knowledge files come over as the skill's reference files; see what transfers.
Export your GPT with one click
The free Chrome extension reads the GPT you have open in ChatGPT and downloads a zip with its instructions and, where ChatGPT allows it, its knowledge files.
