Short answerThe system prompt is the standing instruction that defines the assistant. The user prompt is what each person types. A migrated GPT's "instructions" belong in the system prompt, and users should not be able to change them.
Definitions
- System prompt: set by you; defines role, rules and format for every conversation.
- User prompt: typed by the person using the bot, one message at a time.
Why it matters in migration
- Your GPT instructions go into the new platform's system prompt or equivalent field (instructions, global prompt, Role).
- Some tools call it different names; see the platform pages, for example Voiceflow's global prompt and Botpress's autonomous node instructions.
- Users can try to override it: prompt injection.
Write it using the template; keep secrets out of it.
