Short answerA webhook is a web address that waits for another system to send it data and then starts something, like a workflow. Rebuilt assistants often call a webhook to do what a GPT Action did.
The idea
Normally you visit a website and ask for something. A webhook flips that: it is an address that sits waiting, and when something sends data to it, a workflow runs. Zapier, Make and n8n each give you such an address.
How it replaces an Action
- Your assistant decides to look up an order.
- It sends the order number to your webhook address.
- The workflow looks the order up and sends back the result.
Staying safe
- Require authentication on the webhook so strangers cannot trigger it (n8n supports Basic, Header or JWT; Make supports an API key header).
- Limit what the workflow can change.
Setup pages: Zapier, Make and n8n. Planning: Actions migration, OpenAPI.
