What OpenAI says about external users

The migration guide says to check access for external users, noting that public GPTs in affected Enterprise workspaces are included but public sharing and timelines for other plans may differ, and to record your intended audience and verify they can install and use the replacement. It also says each replacement starts private and that access to the original GPT does not carry over. A summary of the FAQ adds that making a personal plugin public requires a separate plugin submission process.

What is not verified

An official 'anyone with the link' equivalent for outside customers. A community thread (not official) says there is none. Check OpenAI's current documentation and your plan.

If customers use your GPT today

  1. Ask OpenAI's support or documentation about customer access for your plan.
  2. Prepare a public alternative: hosted bot page or another platform.
  3. Announce the move early: template.

Choosing between paths: plugin or hosted bot.

Need your GPT running again without ChatGPT?

GPT Migrator can host your instructions and files as a standalone chat page for $47 per month. You bring your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. It answers from your instructions and files and does not run GPT Actions.
