Short answerYour realistic options are OpenAI plugins (the path OpenAI recommends), a project workspace such as Claude Projects, a custom build on a model API, a hosted bot page, or a chatbot-builder platform. Choose by who uses the bot and whether you need Actions.
The five options
| Option | Good when | Limits to check |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI plugins | Your users stay in ChatGPT | Actions must be rebuilt; sharing and install rules apply |
| Project workspaces (e.g. Claude Projects) | Internal use with instructions and files | Not a public bot; check plan limits |
| Custom build on a model API | You need Actions, integrations or full control | Requires development; you maintain it |
| Hosted bot page | Customer-facing bot from instructions and files | Depends on the host's features; GPT Migrator does not run Actions |
| Chatbot-builder platforms | You want embeds, analytics and team features | Compare pricing and data handling yourself |
How to choose
- Who uses it? Only your team, or the public?
- Does it call outside services (Actions)? If yes, plan for a rebuild or a custom build.
- Where should it live? Inside ChatGPT, in another assistant, or on your own page or site?
- Who maintains it? A managed host saves time; a custom build gives control.
We have not ranked platforms
We do not rank third-party tools here because pricing and features change and we have not tested each one. When we cover a platform we link to its official documentation and show the date we checked.
Start with GPT vs plugin, Claude Projects or hosting outside ChatGPT. Disclosure: GPT Migrator offers the hosted-bot option.
Need your GPT running again without ChatGPT?
GPT Migrator can host your instructions and files as a standalone chat page for $47 per month. You bring your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. It answers from your instructions and files and does not run GPT Actions.
