Short answerState the length you want ("2 to 4 sentences unless asked for detail"), show an example, and set a maximum output length if the platform allows. Then retest, since models differ.
Fixes
- Say it plainly: "Answer in 2 to 4 sentences. Offer more detail only if asked."
- Show an example of the right length: few-shot examples.
- Specify format: bullets for steps, one paragraph for explanations.
- Cap output where the platform offers a maximum output setting; it also limits cost.
- If too short: ask for "complete, step-by-step answers" and add an example.
